Most people who have been confirmed to have MERS-CoV infection developed severe acute respiratory illness. They had fever, cough, and shortness of breath. About 30% of these people died.

It is estimated that over 9 million Syrians have fled their homes by the Migration Policy Centre at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. 2.6 million Syrians have fled to neighboring countries such as Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, and Egypt.
