Most of the time we hear stories of celebrities that are completely self-obsessed, drug abusing, or angry jerks. The celebrities that are actually making strides towards improving humanity get put on the back burner, if they’re even talked about at all. You’ve heard of every one of these people, but you don’t usually hear about the good they do for people all over the world. Here are 7 celebrities that are working towards improving humanity!
Shakira’s Piers Descalzos organization is a charity that helps school-aged kids in Columbia get a good education, full nutrition, and better living situations as they need it. Shakira’s charity also helps the children’s parents get money and give them opportunities to improve their quality of life.
Elton John has been working for years to raise money and combat AIDS. Not only is he raising money to help those with AIDS, he wants to remove the stigma that the disease has in the world today so that people actually come forward and don’t feel like there is something wrong with them.
Sean Penn is an anti-war pacifist, but he backs up what he says by actually physically helping the victims. While Penn does not have his own charity foundation, he has visited both Iran and Iraq and offered physical and monetary support to victims of war zones. He has also shown up in person to help with hurricane victims. Not many celebrities are as engaged as Sean Penn is.
DiCaprio has a very vocal activist for a more eco-friendly world and began the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation to raise money that goes towards research in eco-technology. He also raised tons of money for Haitian earthquake victims.
This Iron Man co-star has done great work towards raising both awareness and money to combat genocide. As he was taking part in the movie Hotel Rwanda, he began to become more aware of the problems that the people of Rwanda faced and still face, and authored books and raised money to help combat the atrocities of genocide. He, along with other celebrities such as George Clooney, have founded Not On Our Watch to help combat genocide.
The Mad Max: Fury Road star has her hands full, dealing with all sorts of human rights awareness and help groups. Her most famous foundation is the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, which gets help for women who have been brutalized by the people around them. She has made strides towards stopping violence against women and getting abused women the help the rehabilitation they need.
Where to start with Emma Watson? She is the spokesperson for the feminist organization He for She, she told fans to forget her birthday and instead donate to UNICEF’s charity, she raises money for Sense, a charity for the deaf-blind… And those are just a few. And somehow she’s still able to make huge movies at the same time.
